![]() ![]() “You know, this is the kind of place I could live in for some time.” Then by the evening, after a lovely local couple we met at sunset offered us a few seats in their golf cart to take us to the only place we could grab a bottle of wine for evening drinks on the deck, and we ran into Dave the kayak guy, who they tried to introduce us, and we said ” yeah, we already know each other”, I thought to myself, We had a great time on our Atsena Otie tour with Mandy, and when we're back in Cedar Key again, we're going to take her other tours - like hiking and biking. We checked into our Sea Pearl Suite at Harbour Masters with its wrap around deck offering 270-degree expansive views over nearby islands and decided a few days would be the slow and restful family vacation we all need.Ī couple of hours later after swimming and paddle boarding we extended that to a week. ![]() Aside from being an excellent guide, Mandy added delightful little touches to the trip, like bringing along supplies to make headstone rubbings at the cemetery on the island and serving seltzer and OJ at lunch, which gave the meal a touch of elegance. Mandy gave terrific instructions, and we were off!Īll along the way, Mandy shared her expert knowledge of the area. We met Mandy at the local gas station, and easily followed her to the beach where we launched the kayaks. My husband is a finicky eater, but Mandy didn't get frustrated every time I kept saying, "Um, no, he doesn't eat that." She ultimately came up with a Mexican feast that was fantastic.Įverything about this adventure was carefree and fun. ![]() Mandy called right back after I left a message, and she was friendly and super helpful, asking about our kayaking experience and dietary needs. We saw the flier and knew we just had to do the Atsena Otie Adventure. We learned about Mandy's amazing tours while we were staying at Sunset Isle RV Park in Cedar Key. ![]() I wholeheartedly recommend a tour with Mandy Davis and Hidden Coast Outdoors for anyone spending a day in Cedar Key! I can't say enough good things about my first-ever kayak experience. I knew from exploring the website that lunch would be provided however, I was totally unprepared for a gourmet feast made by Mandy herself. Mandy also knew a lot about the history of Cedar Key and Atsena Otie, local flora/fauna, seashells, and birds. I should also mention that Mandy was gracious enough to offer me the use of her own kayak as it was easier to get in to and out of, as well as being easier to paddle. She was also very good at assessing my needs - did I want to kayak some more or pull into shore for lunch did I want to kayak some more or head back to the main land. Mandy stayed near my side the whole way as I struggled and learned to kayak by trial and error, and she was always quick with a word of help and/or encouragement. After giving me a basic lesson on the beach, we were off. Secondly, for a first-timer, I couldn't have asked for a better instructor. Mandy Davis, the owner of Hidden Coast Outdoors, tour guide and gourmet chef was wonderful! First of all, she was kind enough to take me out all by myself. That being said, on a recent stay in Cedar Key, Florida, I decided it would be a good idea to kayak out to Atsena Otie, approximately 0.5 miles away from the "main land." I guess I should mention that I have NEVER kayaked before in my life. My New Year's resolution is to try new things. ![]()
